Five guiding principles underscore everything we do as architects, artists and designers at Jesse Bennett Studio.

1

Respecting the elements

We’re strong advocates for the principles of passive design, an approach that relies on a commitment to truly working with the elements, in the purest sense of form and function. We aim to design buildings for optimal thermal performance, to excel in their unique climate and environment- regardless of whether they’re in a dense urban site, remote bushland, tropical rainforest, or beachfront location.

2

Embracing contrast

Light V Dark. Solid V Void. Rough V polished. Patterns, Balance, Contradictions. We believe our buildings, like many facets of life and design, should embrace dual contrasting qualities to achieve a depth of architectural character and interior style. It’s a philosophy we embody in our studio too, embracing our contrasting skill sets to yield fresh interpretations in our work.

3

A dimensional, shared perspective

We’re proud to be a small studio that enables a personalised process and a true exchange of ideas between us and our clients. We embrace the rich tapestry of beliefs, interests, hobbies, and life experience that we all bring to each new commission – as it’s where we find inspiration and spirit.

4

Designing for posterity

Design should be able to sustain itself for many decades with minimal intervention, and great architecture should live long enough to tell a story. We set out to create buildings that will remain relevant amid ever-changing trends, that are both stylistically and environmentally sensitive, and that aren’t afraid to say something new.

5

Spirit of Place

Emotion imbued between walls; A sensation that reminds us of our awakeness in a moment; An unexpected mnemonic trigger. When a building becomes an inhabitable story, bringing a unique sense of spirit to all those that engage with it- that’s the heart of our practice of architecture and interior design.
